Late-December, 2011, 100% acceptance rate for Class of 2012 applicants to Academic Magnet! University School’s percentage of AMHS applicants accepted from our four graduating classes (2008-2012) is 90%.

On November 8, 2011, The Post and Courier featured University School’s pioneering Learning Outside the Classroom program. David Slade (“Middle-school students predict the winners “) specifically focused on the students’ work with exit polling and election predicting in the Mount Pleasant and Charleston municipal elections. The Charleston City Paper also spotlighted University School’s exit polls (“Middle School exit polls point to Riley victory“) as part of its coverage of Election Night.

University School won Best School Booth at the Mt. Pleasant Children’s Day Festival at Park West on Sunday, October 16, 2011.

Channel 5 interviewed our students working at IPPL as part of their coverage of the Day of Caring on September 9, and you can see the video here. On September 10, 2011, a Post and Courier article (“More than 8,000 turn out for Day of Caring”) also mentions University School’s entire school taking part in the Day of Caring.

In her article (“Kids enjoy a classical summer: students learn Latin, get taste of Roman culture at C of C”)in the Post and Courier on July 26, 2011, Diette Courrégé examined the teaching of Latin in Lowcountry schools and a new Latin summer camp experience at the College of Charleston (attended by some USL students). All students at USL take Latin, Mandarin and Spanish.

Congratulations to University School 2010 graduate Kate Frain for being inducted into the Spanish Honor Society at Academic Magnet High School. As the first graduate of USL’s pioneering global languages program, Kate matriculated to AMHS with four global language credits. She is also the first 9th grader in the history of Academic Magnet to be selected for this honor. Kudos to Kate and USL’s global languages program and faculty!
